Every release of the register, as the research team records it in bitcoin-places-CHANGELOG.md. The site serves version 0.6.0.

Every release entry records the version, release date, row additions/removals/merges, stable-ID changes, status or adoption-fact changes, source refreshes, schema/method/licence changes and known unresolved rows. Released history is append-only; corrections create a new entry.

Released — v0.5.0 — 2026-10-14 (V-2 weekly verification)

  • 8 rows added (58 → 66), stable IDs new: Bitcoin Chama, Bitcoin Famba, Bitcoin Karoo, Bitcoin Boma, Bitcoin Makueni, Bitcoin Dombo, Lwandi Bitcoin and Bitcoin Zambia. Each has one matching sidecar row.
  • Re-opened the eight oldest rows. Lugano Plan B, Bitcoin District Próspera and Bitcoin Dominicana changed quiet → active on dated October 2026 operator activity. The other five retained their grades with refreshed fact dates, locators or evidence limits.
  • Three earlier candidate refusals were superseded only after new evidence appeared: Bitcoin Makueni gained an operator Nostr record; Bitcoin Dombo and Lwandi Bitcoin gained dated programme-partner field reports.
  • Status now 38 active · 24 quiet · 3 unverified · 1 ceased. Region coverage is Asia 4 · North America 7 · Oceania 1 · Latin America & Caribbean 14 · Europe 13 · Africa 27.
  • No schema change: register remains 17 columns and sidecar 14 columns. The two files contain the same 66 unique IDs.
  • D8 has 15 unbatched additions toward the next ~25-row content brief; no brief or consumer signal was due.

Released — v0.4.0 — 2026-10-07 (V-1 weekly verification)

  • 8 rows added (50 → 58), stable IDs new: Bitcoin Arusha, Bitcoin Githurai, OK Bitcoin, Bitcoin Lille, Bitcoin Apes Cascais, Bitcoin Friendly South Africa, Bridge 2 Bitcoin and Kiveclair. Each has one matching sidecar row.
  • Re-opened the eight oldest rows. Bitcoin Plett changed unverified → active after a dated first-party event was recovered; btchick Bitcoin Island changed quiet → unverified after the project URL failed retrieval. The other six retained their grades with refreshed evidence notes.
  • Status now 30 active · 24 quiet · 3 unverified · 1 ceased. Region coverage is Asia 4 · North America 7 · Oceania 1 · Latin America & Caribbean 14 · Europe 13 · Africa 19.
  • No schema change: register remains 17 columns and sidecar 14 columns. The two files contain the same 58 unique IDs.
  • D8's first ~25-row threshold was crossed; content/atlas-place-pages-batch-01.md defines the first 25-page evidence-led batch.

Released — v0.3.0 — 2026-10-02 (CoS places sprint, Jukka live)

  • 24 rows added (26 → 50), stable IDs new, no existing row changed. First rows in Asia (Bali Bitcoin Island, Bitcoin Saigon, Bitcoin Beach Goa, Bitcoin Chiang Mai), North America (Bitcoin Bay Foundation, Bitcoin District Initiative, Bitcoin Charlotte, KC Bitcoin Merchant Network, Bitcoin Chattanooga, Bitcoin Comox Valley) and Oceania (The Bitcoin Basin); plus Latin America (Bitcoin Berlín, BTC Isla, Bitcoin é Aqui!, Bitcoin Amantikir, PuntaBitcoin.uy, BTC Curaçao, Bitcoin Paraguay), Europe (Zwolle Bitcoinstad, Bitcoin Friesland, Normandie Bitcoin) and Africa (BitKwa, BTC Shule Winteko, Bitcoin Benin).
  • Every new row opened at the operator's own surface on 2026-10-02 (raw HTML where a site renders client-side, stated in confidence); grades per plan v3 § V4: 17 active · 7 quiet. Calendar/agenda listings and blog posts used as dated activity are named as such in grade_basis; an auto-repeating calendar series was refused as evidence (Bali → quiet).
  • Independent verification: two verifier agents re-opened every evidence and activity URL; their corrections were applied; 8 drafted rows were refused at review (not a place programme, no operator, or no evidence) and moved to the candidates file with the reason.
  • bitcoin-places-candidates.csv: 157 places looked at and not admitted, each with the reason — the next run's do-not-recheck list (re-check only on new evidence).
  • Register now 22 active · 24 quiet · 1 ceased · 3 unverified; 33 countries; 48 mapped (BTC Shule's Winteko has no Wikidata item). Ceased rows still 1 of the ≥5 V5 target — the sprint found no operator-stated ending it could open.

Unreleased — v0.2.0-rc1 — 2026-09-30

  • Replaced ambiguous evidence_date with separate source_locator, accessed_date and fact_as_of fields across all 26 rows; the schema now has 17 columns.
  • Preserved four dated/historical fact records and marked 22 undated operator claims unknown rather than treating access dates as fact dates.
  • Re-opened 15 primary/operator surfaces to confirm locators; retained earlier receipt dates for the remaining rows. Bitcoin Campus Zambia and Bitcoin Plett remain indexed-first-party/failed-direct-fetch rows, and Bitcoin Loxion remains unresolved with its current FBCE directory locator.
  • Validation passed: 26 rows, 26 unique stable IDs, no empty required cells, ISO access dates, valid ISO/unknown fact-date values, HTTPS evidence URLs, explicit evidence limits and current-row evidence no older than 120 days.
  • The conservative reuse boundary still passes. This candidate is citable as an internal research package; publication remains withheld pending an owner decision and licence.

Unreleased — v0.1.0-rc1 — 2026-09-23

  • Register remains 26 rows with 26 unique stable entity_id values.
  • Rechecked Bitcoin Beach, Bitcoin Ekasi, Bitcoin Jungle, Lugano Plan B, Arnhem Bitcoinstad and La IslaBTC against primary/operator surfaces.
  • Added Bitcoin Ekasi's operator-controlled 500+ current-user claim with no eligible-population denominator; refreshed unchanged live status/count evidence for Bitcoin Jungle, Lugano, Arnhem and La IslaBTC; retained Bitcoin Beach's end-2021 adoption figures as historical.
  • Upgraded Bitcoin Victoria Falls from an operator-controlled social surface to its retrievable standalone site; the site supplies current programme evidence but no adoption denominator.
  • Preserved Bitcoin Loxion as unresolved after its directory-linked .org operator domain failed the single retry; the suspended .com was not attributed to the project.
  • Defined quarterly release cadence, semantic versioning, the release data dictionary and publication boundary.
  • Known release blocker at this candidate: backfill source_locator, accessed_date and distinct fact_as_of fields for all 26 rows before v1.0.0 or the D2 memo (closed in v0.2.0-rc1).

Research source revision — v0.5.1 — 2026-10-20 (V-3 partial)

  • Eight records refreshed; zero additions. Register/sidecar remain 66 unique IDs, 17/14 columns.
  • Bitcoin Ubuntu and Bitfiasi quiet → active on dated operator publications; 40 active / 22 quiet / 3 unverified / 1 ceased.
  • Praia cessation precision corrected 2026-02-28 → 2026-02; Bitcoin Valley's 2025-09-25 news date recorded outside the activity window; FREE Madeira activity date narrowed to past listed 2026-09-30 meetup, not attendance.
  • Ola Bitcoin merchant examples acknowledged without an aggregate count; Ordermoon www evidence URL recovered after bare-host failures, quiet retained.
  • No public release performed. Before/after values: ../signals/2026-10-20-V3-refresh-diff.json; evidence and search log: ../signals/2026-10-20-V3-source-receipt.md.

Research source revision — v0.5.2 — 2026-10-21 (V-3 partial)

  • One row added: hk-bitcoin-city-hk; 66 → 67 records, exact register/sidecar match. Existing rows unchanged.
  • Asia 4 → 5; active 40 → 41. Seven candidate leads recorded without admission.
  • D8 unbatched 16/25; seven V-3 additions still outstanding. No public release.

Research source revision — v0.6.0 — 2026-10-28 (atlas surge, Lane 2; not released)

  • 32 rows added (67 → 99), stable IDs new or promoted from candidates.csv. Pass 1 (10): bitcoin-alsace-fr, alpinechain-annecy-fr, bitcoin-metz-fr, bitcoin-valais-ch, western-mass-bitcoin-us, ct-bitcoin-us, round-rock-bitcoiners-us, bitcoin-breda-nl, bitcoin-orania-za, harlem-bitcoin-us.   • No schema change: register 17 columns, sidecar 14 columns, 99 unique IDs, exact 1:1. Validation: node scripts/sync-atlas.mjs + build-atlas.mjs --as-of 2026-10-28 + test/atlas.test.js PASS on a scratch copy of the repo only after adding HK to the site country table — the live repo still rejects hk-bitcoin-city-hk (added 2026-10-21) with "unknown country HK"; that predates this merge.
